I
volunteered Saturday to act as a technical judge for the FIRST Lego League (FLL) Niagara Regional Tournament and I must say that even though it was an exhausting time, I thoroughly enjoyed the day.
With 22 teams competing, the pace was incredibly hectic, but everything came off without any significant hitches. This year's FLL Challenge was titled Ocean Odyssey in which the teams' robots have 2 1/2 minutes to get as many point possible by completing 9 missions.
These nine missions simulated a variety of tasks that the teams had to have their robots perform autonomously.
The results for the Niagara Regional Quallifiers, and those teams heading to the Provincials are:
- Director’s Award - Team #2279 (St. Alexanders Catholic, Fonthill)
- Robot Design Award - Team #4942 ( Centennial Public School, Georgetown)
- Project Award - Team #4683 ( Calvin Park Public School, Kingston)
- Teamwork and FLL Values - Team #1413 (Niagara Christian Collegiate, Fort Erie)
- Judges Award - Team #912 (Mitchell Computer Service, Mitchell)
Performance Awards:
- 1st place - Team #4270 ( St. Augustine, Welland)
- 2nd place - Team #3212 (Markham Homeschoolers, Markham)
- 3rd place - Team #5008 ( Sheridan Park, St. Catharines)
Kudos to these winners and every team that participated in the event!
I'll be seeing these teams and manmy others next Sarurday at the 2005 Ontario Provincial Tournament!
